The Sigma 20mm 1.8 is a Great Investment in My Personal Opinion

January 27th 2012 -

Personally, I think that the Sigma 20mm 1.8 is a great investment if you are looking for a wide prime lens that performs great in low light. I did notice some corner softness and a fair amount of vignetting when I shot a few test shots at f/1.8 but nothing that was so bad that it made the photos unusable. During my normal use of this lens I barely noticed the softness and vignetting so unless you are going to use your lens under test conditions all the time I would say there is no reason to worry about these issues. My main concern would be the focus motor, which is a very noisy little thing. Since the highlight of this lens is its ability to shoot in darker, indoor locations, I used it when I was on holiday to take some nice shoots of church interiors. Needless to say the noisy focus motor caused me to get a few irritated glances.
